Welcome to Santa Margarita Elementary School
Home of the Mighty Mustangs
Santa Margarita is dedicated to promoting Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence. The staff is committed to these core values as we support our students in their preparation to become college and career ready. As a school we focus on creating a caring school that promotes positive and kind behaviors. We value the tradition of success at SMES and will continue to work collaboratively with parents, student and our community partners to ensure that our students grow and flourish.
AUSD has partnered with SmartSocial.com for on-demand courses on how to take action to ensure that students are using social media in a way that can be beneficial and not harmful. Interested families can register on the link above. Parents can access the content free of charge through the next school year. This a a great way to know and understand the apps and platforms students are using and how to keep them safe.

To ensure a safe and orderly campus throughout the school year, we need your cooperation in supporting our school and celebrating the great things we are doing at Santa Margarita Elementary. In the past few months we have had an increase in the amount of vandalism and graffiti on our campus. The defacing and destroying of property can be costly to our school and district and may cause people to think our school is not well-cared for. Because our community and families do care about our school and what happens here, we are asking that you if you see or know of any vandalism occurring on our campus, that you please call the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office at 781-4550 or We-Tip at 1800-78-CRIME. We appreciate your help and support in keeping our campus safe.
